ABOUT DR. SOFEN
Dr. Bryan Sofen is a rare physician double board certified in both Dermatology and Mohs Micrographic Dermatologic Surgery. Dr. Sofen is the Head of Dermatology at Corewell Health Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Mi, and an Assistant Professor at both Oakland University & Wayne State University medical schools. At Beaumont he is also the Site Director, teaching residents and medical students at both Wayne and Oakland University. Having trained at two of the top three Dermatology programs in the country, Dr. Sofen is excited to bring complete care to his patients medically, surgically, and cosmetically.
After growing up in in the metro Detroit area, Dr. Sofen graduated with honors from the University of Michigan with degrees in Biology and Spanish and earned his MD at Wayne State University in Detroit. Extremely rare amongst Dermatologists, Dr. Sofen worked as a general surgeon prior to Dermatology, completing an internship in General Surgery at the joint program of Weill Cornell / New York Presbyterian Hospital and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. He then did his residency in Dermatology at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, IL, serving as the Chief Resident his final year. He subsequently completed a prestigious and much sought after fellowship in Mohs micrographic surgery, Cutaneous Oncology, and Cosmetic dermatology at the University of California at San Francisco (UCSF). At UCSF, working together with top cosmetic dermatologists and plastic surgeons, Dr. Sofen honed his surgical skills and his cosmetic acumen in order to treat all aesethetic concerns, gaining expertise with Botox, fillers, and laser procedures.
Dr. Sofen is double board-certified in Dermatology and Mohs Micrographic Dermatologic Surgery by the American Board of Dermatology, and is a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology, the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, The Michigan Dermatologic Society, and the American College of Mohs Surgery. He has also spent time working with top research scientists around the country furthering the field of dermatology, conducting dermatologic research and training at Yale, Northwestern, UCLA, and the University of Chicago. He is the author of numerous scientific publications, has lectured at many international meetings, and is the author of over a dozen textbook chapters.
Dr. Sofen also completed a specialized Dermatopharmacology fellowship at New York University (NYU), running their clinical trials unit and help to investigate new treatment options for both medical and aesthetic dermatologic conditions. Work by Dr. Sofen directly led to the approval of several new medical and cosmetic medications.
Dr. Sofen has a particular interest in surgical and cosmetic dermatology and is an avid Detroit and Michigan sports fan who enjoys outdoor sports, traveling, Detroit food scene, and spending time with his wife and two young children. He is fluent in Spanish.
